To get to Summerville you have to leave the Wallowa highway near Imbler. Don't worry, it makes a loop so you can keep on going to Joseph. This is the site of the Summerville Stockade built in 1870 to protect against Indian uprisings. Summerville is an intersection of two roads with a cluster of residences and the necessary commercial buildings: a store, a post office, and a city hall. And views that go on forever.
