Ft. Klamath
Klamath County, 97624
The settlement of Ft. Klamath once was the focus of events in the upper Klamath region. Established in 1863 ostensibly to maintain the peace during the Civil War, the fort operated until 1890. The real purpose of the Fort was to eradicate the Klamath Indians. The old fort site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The military history complete with pictures can be found here. The area is now a recreational gateway to Crater Lake Park and provides excellent fishing, hunting, hiking, and canoeing opportunities. Crater Lake Bed and Breakfast has a informative web site also.
