Hiway 26 makes up the main street of Unity on its way from John Day to Vale. The town is above 4000 feet and the road from John Day goes thru even higher passes on its way to Unity. Water in the Burnt River here must travel about a thousand miles to get to the ocean. First it has to wander eastward to meet the Snake River at Huntington.
