To show how important the railroads were to the early towns in this area note that when the first railroad missed Culver the citizens moved the town sitck by stick to a site near the railroad. The genral store and post office building was moved intact. The folks who run Culver have an optomistic attitude. The new welcome sign proclaims "Culver is Oregon." I appreciate the positive attitude, but 98% of Oregonians (according to my recent poll) do not even know where Culver is. The location is great and with central Oregon booming the future looks better than for most small towns. Irrigated alfalfa is King around Culver but recreational opportunities could replace the king. Lake Billy Chinook is practically in Culver's back yard.
