Molalla
Clackamas County, 97038
The town of Molalla takes its name from the Molalla river, a local un-dammed fast flowing stream originating in the Cascade mountains. The river rushes to its confluence with the Willamette River near Canby. The river in turn takes its name from the local Molala native Americans whose name is similar but spelled many ways. Molalla is a former lumbering town still trying to find its way in the twenty-first century. At mid-twentieth centry Molalla boasted several successful mills processing the timber from the adjacent Cascade mountains. Now only two down-sized mills remain and life for them is tenuous at best. Molalla incorporated in 1913 but had a post office since 1850. The Molalla Buckeroo is the premier local event. It stages a very successful five show rodeo around the fourth of July each year.
