Gold Beach
Curry County, 97444
Gold Beach started out named Ellensburgh, then became Ellensburg, then became Gold Beach when placer miners in 1890 figured out that the beach sand held gold. This is where the famous Rogue River meets the ocean. From here one can take the mail boat run up the river to Agnes, a small community located at the confluence of the Rogue and Illinois wild rivers. The powerful jet sleds that carry the mail nowadays can put your heart in your throat every now and then on the way up. You can get to Agness by road but it is tough. Most people take the boat.
