Christmas Valley
Lake County, 97641
Its name gives Christmas Valley an holiday sound, but there is no Christmas to it. Named for pioneer stockman Peter Christman, somehow the name got changed. By 1900 'Christmas' was in general use in the area. In the early 1960's a developer tried to blow this place up in size to a town of 5000, but the project failed. I think the developer made some money because he sold all of his lots. The result is the place has a nice airport and some fancy sounding street names. Farming and ranching are big here as irrigation water is available and applied through the giant center pivot systems that show up so well from the air.
