Winston

Winston has long been famous as the home of Wildlife Safari. I grew up not far from here and remember that the wild animal park in the early days was always on the verge of bankruptcy. It's survival is a great story of community involvement and small town economic development. Winston is a junction town. Here is where Hiway 42 leaves the old Hiway 99 and crosses to the coast and Hiway 101. Appropriately enough a beautiful bronze cheetah sculpture stands guard over the junction now.
