Granite

Grant County, 97877

Granite was always about gold and the towns fortunes rose and fell with the markets and laws. I know one guy who used to work a claim up there and he never got any richer at that than I did at selling real estate. My company did once list and sell 6 city lots there for $5,000. Payment was $2500 cash plus a diamond ring that was supposed to be worth the rest. We probably could have sold the lots for more but every time we disclosed the abandoned mine shaft on the property buyers backed off. Most guides list Granite as a ghost town, but it has made a bit of a come-back. The last census showed about 40 residents making it the second smallest incorporated city in Oregon. Nearby Greenhorn is also incorporated but has zero residents taking first place honors with ease.
