Philomath

Philomath College was founded in 1867 by the United Brethren Church. The name stuck to the city too. The name derives from two Greek words meaning "lover of learning" (don't test me on my Greek!). The city was incorporated in 1882. The college closed in 1929 due to a dramatic decline in enrollment. This town has a glass blowing company named Gazelle Art Glass, LLC. that makes salt and pepper shakers that are known by collectors across the USA. They make a lot of other things too, but I just know about the shakers. Check them out on their web page.
