Prospect, Oregon
Jackson County, 97536
Prospect, Oregon is no longer on the main road. The last road improvement program bypassed them. I am sure that hurt business, but at least they do not have eighteen-wheelers roaring thru town. From a population of 1200 in 1990 town has dwindled to 650 citizens in the recent census. That shows what the Highway Department can do for a town if they really try. Prospect started out as a mill town with the first mill opened in 1870. By 1889 they had the 'Prospect' of a railroad coming through. The trains never arrived but the name stuck. The place is now very much a recreational area feasting on the delights of the upper Rogue River.
