Lowell
Lane County, 97452
Lane county does a great job of preserving its covered bridges. The one at Lowell is now an interpretive center for its kind. If you want to know about covered bridges this is a worthwhile stop. Since flooding was a preennial problem most of the covered bridges are not that old. The one in Lowell was built in 1945. I had always heard that the bridges were covered so the horses would not shy while crossing. The guide at Lowell says the bridge was covered to keep the rain off so the planks would not rot. If you like covered bridges you might visit the state's bridge history site, listing all of the covered bridges in Oregon. The construction of Dexter resevoir opened up the Lowell area to a variety of outdoor activities.
